I got on for the election results for the propositions. It was FANTASTIC!
I was particularly interested in Prop 226 and one of the local radio
stations here in Redding was reporting 226 as passing while I was sitting
here glued to the Java website watching it go down (YAY!). So I called them
up, told them I was logged on the website and that Prop 226 was LOSING.
They asked for the address - end of conversation!
It was great. Keep up the good work. It would have also been nice to be
able to get information on some of the local races - like the Siskiyou
County Supt of Schools where a teacher ran against the incumbent (first
"race" in 48 years!) and WON!

The new Java browser was GREAT !!! As you said, loading would be slower
with Netscape 3.0, but it was really worth the wait. Being able to set
up only those races of interest without having to page through those of
no interest was a super improvement over your last election coverage. I
don't see how you could possibly improve your coverage for November, '98

I visited the Web site for the first time on election night to get up-to-the
minute results. It's VERY well done. I like being able to get the stats at a
glance even on a county-by-county basis. I find it very interesting to see the
map of the state and the results; that's fascinating.

I was impressed with your election nite coverage. Your continuing updates
were clearly superior to the TV coverage available and a whole lot more
comprehensive than other election news.
This was my first year on the Enternet. I'm still using a old 486 w/3.1
and could not take advantage of all your Java capabilities. I hope to be

has provided to the voters of California. Other states have produced similar

to get all of the election results in one place (the news stations and even
local papers have the nasty tendency to only report the results of those
races that THEY think are interesting). Now I can easily compare how I

done quite a bit of traveling online.
Your job was to push the numbers out as fast a possible, and you
succeeded, you excelled!
Specifically:
1. Thank you for not loading the site with bandwith-hogging graphics and
cute dancing Java tricks.
2. You delivered the numbers in a very usable form. Having Statewide
figures included with County returns for comparison was excellent.
3. You anticipated links I wanted to take from within the site.
4. Nice touches like having direct links to legislative district results
after searching the county lists for the numbers.
5. Excellent layout; clean; fits on a page without horizontal scrolling.
6. Consistent format was very easy to get used to.

Hello. I just wanted to take a second and let you know that the web
site you put together is terrific! It is easy to understand and browse
through. It is nice to see the State of California, the most
technologically advanced place on Earth, providing its residents such
important information as election results so quickly and in an easy to
find, access and read manner. The newspaper had to go to print with only 54% of the precincts
reporting in. I found it hard to continue reading their commentary
knowing that 46% of the information was missing at the time it was
written.
I thank you once again, and look forward to visiting this site again
come November.

The live results are great! It is truly live. I reloaded a results
page only 2 minutes after the original viewing and there was an obvious
difference in the % of precincts reporting!

Just a note to say that it was my first time at your
site and I thought it was very well set up.
Having all the links at the bottom of every page is very
useful, since not all browsers keep a cumulative
History in the Go menu.
I also appreciated the lack of frames, pictures, and .gif buttons
cluttering up the page - they tend to make pages load slowly. Your
layout is functional, yet pleasing to the eye.
The pages seemed to load equally well here with both
Netscape 3.0 and IE3.02.

I followed the 1996 election results on the SOS's home page, and I was
very pleased with the ease of use, the rapid posting of incoming results
(giving the sense that one was watching the counting as it was happening),
and the quiet accompanying what I think of as a sober event.
The innovations introduced onto this page as I viewed it last night and
this morning have improved the results reporting in the areas I consider
to be most important.
